b. 1989

Singer/Songwriter from Sydney Australia | Living in Tel Aviv, Israel

DANAH is an emerging R&B singer and songwriter.
Born and raised in Sydney, Danah (Dana Gilden) recently moved to Tel Aviv in Israel to begin a new chapter in her life.
Having found love for music at an early age, she always drew inspiration from the world around her and put it into song.
“I was always scribbling down my emotions into booklets and creating melodies for the words”

Danah, who holds a Bachelors degree in Music Performance has spent the last few years fine
tuning her writing skills and takes inspiration from her studies in Roots, Jazz and Pop music.

Writing lyrics is where Danah prides herself, coming up with creative ways of weaving words together to create meaning.

Danah's writing comes from a personal place, relating to herself or those around her. The singer doesn’t hold back from speaking the truth in her lyrics - whether it’s about love, loss, pain, addiction or life in general. Her honesty is what listeners will connect with, and she tries to keep her lyrics open to interpretation allowing listeners to create their own unique meaning.

Melodically, lyrically and vocally Danah is inspired by artists such as Jhene Aiko, Lauryn Hill, Joss Stone,
Toni Braxton, Melanie Fiona, Alicia Keys, India.Arie, Tinashe, Khelani, Frank Ocean, Eminem and The Weekend.

Much like her idol, Jhene, her style is what is known as future or new generation R&B
- a sound that lies between that of Sade or Aaliyah and current artists like Tinashe, Frank Ocean, or The Weekend.
It is fusion of urban, rhythmic and electronic-pop sounds, influenced by hip-hop and R&B.

There hasn't been the biggest R&B scene in Australia and whilst there is close to none in Israel, Danah
is hoping she can change that through the release of her debut single ‘Side Effects’.

Early in 2016, Danah started working with Top 10 ARIA CHART producer Jhay Cabrera (Jhay C)
on her track ‘Side Effects’, drawing on Cabrera’s expertise in RnB Music and showcasing Danah's abilities as a songwriter and a singer.

Drawing you into the track with her pop-tinged, smooth and sensual vocals matched with descriptive lyrics that float above the beat, Danah sings about the highs and lows of love. Taking inspiration from the people around her, ‘Side Effects’ looks at the concept of being addicted to love similarly to a drug.

Inspired by artists such as Jhene Aiko and Tinashe, the singer/songwriter stays unique with her own style, enhanced through the use of warm ethereal synths and pads to capture the mood of the song, along with reverse pianos, arpeggiated synths, orchestral strings, and 808s.

'Side Effects' is a catchy yet emotive song, that showcase moments of sensitivity but also moments of confusion.

Leading up to her recording, Danah spent time working with singer and vocal coach, Diana Rouvas (The Voice).
"Diana took my voice to new levels that I didn't even know I was capable of reaching"

Prior to her move, Dana had been working with producer Wippy Lion (Lenny Pearce, Justice Crew) on new music including the remix to 'Side Effects' & demo’s including  'Let Me Go', ‘Netflix & Chill’ & ‘Me & You’.  Most recently Dana Got in the studio with the up and coming 17 year old producer Taka Perry to work on demos such as the pop track ‘Un-Tie My Hands’. She also worked with Australia's Got Talent runner up, Greg Gould on songs.

With an in depth understanding of the music industry, Danah has independently crafted

her career from the ground up and isn’t planning on slowing down. Watch this space!
